What is the difference between the Adkins diet and the South Beach diet?

I need to start a diet and don’t know which way to go. Adkins has been successful in the past, but I love skim milk and fruit and I believe that you can have those on the South Beach diet. Can anyone give me information on this subject?

You’re right- fruits are allowed and encouraged after the 1st phase of the south beach diet. South beach is a lot healthier and varied than Atkins. BTW there are snack options at the grocery store that are labeled for the SBD and some of them are pretty good whereas, in my opinion, Atkins bars taste horrible!

Can I eat sugar in adkins diet induction phase?

Like I was looking at cream cheese and it has 1g sugar
and I looked at the walnut nutrition and it also had 1g sugar!!
Does this mean I can’t eat it? ):
oh okay i was just curious ! So basically 1g sugar = 1g carb?
oh okay what about cream cheese? It has 1g

you have to limit cheese to 4 ounces a day

You don’t want to eat added sugar but some things have natural sugars - walnut’s are not allowed for 5 weeks though.

Anyone doing or have done the Adkins diet?

My family is wanting to start a diet and we have heard from a few people that Adkins is a decent one. What were your experiences with it? What were/are some of your favorite recipes for this diet? Any insight on Adkins diet would be appreciated!

Can I lose fat but, gain or maintain muscle on an Adkins type diet?

Im wanting to lose fat but maintain or maybe gain a little muscle on my weight training program. If im taking in alot of protein on an adkins type diet, can I lose the fat but, maintain my muscle?

Absolutely. That is exactly why you eat protein on the diet. Basically when you are at zero or very low carbs rhe body begins converting fat into glucose to run itself. If you do not eat protein the body will begin breaking down protein into carbs as well to an extent. You can eat as much protein and fat as you want. And you do need the fat on this diet. You want to be in gluconeogenisus vis lipolysis verses protein breakdown. You will most likely find that when you train on low carbs you will be sluggish early in the session but after a while your energy will spark up as the fat is converted into glucose as you will be working with little glycogen reserves.
